WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester’s effort on the floor exercise in the final event of the day was enough to come from behind and defeat visiting SUNY-Cortland, 188.057-185.575, in a non-league women’s gymnastics meet inside Sturzebecker HSC Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (5-1) trailed 141.100-142.325 heading into the final rotation with the Rams on the floor and the Red Dragons on the balance beam. Lindsey Britt scored a 9.525 and Kaley LaFleur a 9.450 on the floor to spark the comeback. Meanwhile, SUNY-Cortland posted its lowest score of the four events on the beam.
Freshman Stephanie Schuler was West Chester’s lone individual champion, taking the vault with a score of 9.65. She finished with a personal best all-around score of 37.400.
The Golden Rams best event of the afternoon was the balance beam where they broke the school record with a 47.400. LaFleur scored a 9.7 on the beam, Lauren Bilenki a 9.625, Emily Seigel a 9.575 and Cassandra Ringer a 9.525 to finish second thru fifth, respectively.
West Chester travels to SUNY-Brockport next Saturday for another non-league meet in Western New York.
