EAST STROUDSBURG - Tommy Ryan scored three minutes before halftime and Christian Benner scored 21 minutes into the second half to lift West Chester to a 2-1 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC men's soccer on Tuesday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Golden Rams (5-7-2, 4-2-1 PSAC) held a 17-8 advantage in shots to earn their first win over the Warriors since 2005, ending a 9-0-2 stretch.
Ryan scored in the 42nd minute and Benner scored in the 66th minute, assisted by Conor Malarney, which entered tied for fourth in the 10-team conference. WCU stands in a tie for third place with 13 points after Tuesday's action. The Rams are tied with California (Pa.), who West Chester beat earlier in the season.
"The team played with a lot of heart and are playing together," Dan DeMasters said. "It's a great thing to see, and they deserve it with the effort that they are putting forth."
The Golden Rams' second goal came three minutes after Dan Venuto put a penalty kick over the crossbar that would have given West Chester a 2-0 lead.
East Stroudsburg's Nick Fischer scored his seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 76th minute for ESU (3-9-2, 0-5-2), but the Warriors were unable to produce the tying goal in the closing minutes.
ESU's Callum Hampson made seven saves, while Garrett Bleiler had two saves for West Chester.
West Chester hosts Bloomsburg on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's squad. The Golden Rams have now won two in a row and will look to make it three against the Huskies on Homecoming Weekend.
