MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Visiting West Chester University used a double overtime goal by Kevin McCann Saturday afternoon to defeat Millersville, 3-2, clinching second place in the PSAC regular-season standings and the second seed in the PSAC tournament next week.
The Golden Rams (8-7-2, 6-2-1 PSAC) have won five straight matches, its longest winning streak since 2006, and are headed to the postseason for the first time since 2007.
The game was scoreless at halftime until Christian Benner knocked in a sharp feed from Conor Malarney. Shortly after, Millersville tied the game with a goal from Andrew Dukes.
West Chester responded when Malarney hustled his way into a one-on-one goal to take the lead. That lead was short-lived, however, as Millersville was able to score with Anthony Fratini hitting the back of the net in the 81st minute for the tie, which sent the game into overtime.
In a long and dramatic overtime session, West Chester’s Jake Maxwell dropped a perfect pass to McCann, who scored his sixth goal of the season and the game-winner for the Golden Rams.
The Golden Rams clinched the second seed in the PSAC tournament that starts next Friday and Saturday at Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa.
