INDIANA, Pa. - West Chester University's women's tennis squad topped Clarion University, 7-2, in PSAC crossover action Friday afternoon.
Playing without No. 1 singles player, Brittany Counts, West Chester swept the doubles competition to open up an early 3-0 lead. Ali Fetter and Haley Wissinger was the new tandem at first doubles and they came away with an 8-5. Gabriela Durand and Jami Dumler were 8-1 winners at second singles while Alex Santoro and Nicole Nardi were 8-3 winners at third doubles.
Fetter and Durand each dropped their singles matches at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Fetter was filling in for Counts and playing up one spot in the order. However, West Chester captured the remaining four singles events to close out the 7-2 win. Dumler's 6-1, 6-1, straight-set victory at sixth singles was the fifth and deciding match win. Nardi, Wissinger and Santoro also won at fifth, fourth and third singles.
West Chester takes on IUP at 7 p.m. in a match that was originally scheduled for Saturday morning. However, expected rain on Saturday made it necessary to try to get the matches in Friday night.
