Men’s Swimming Opens Season With Two Dominating Wins

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University’s men’s swimming & diving squads earned a pair of wins at its season-opening tri-meet with Southern Connecticut State and Shippensburg Saturday morning inside Graham Natatorium.
 
The Golden Rams topped Southern Conn. State, 246-79, while defeating PSAC rival Shippensburg, 235-132. West Chester, which won 8 of 11 events on Friday, picked up four more wins on Saturday. Calvin Starosta helped the 400 medley relay to victory on Saturday. He was a member of three relays that took first place and won another individual event over the two-day meet.
 
Starosta, Bogdan Grebenyuk, Ryan Stahley and Tom McMahon made up the 400 medley relay winning squad that posted a time of 3:37.38.
 
Phil Letcavage won the 200-yard Individual Medley in 2 minutes, 1.22 seconds. Tommy Rhoads won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.58 seconds while Stahley was right behind him in second in 21.59.
 
Friday night, Chris Murphy won both boards in the diving competition up on North Campus in Hollinger Field House. Murphy earned 265.85 points on the 1-meter springboard, outdistancing Jonas Raider’s 236 points. Zach Burns was third with 205.25. Murphy also won the 3-meter board with 238.85 points. Kurt van Mol was second (204.75) and Burns was third (202.60).
 
Bradley Strathmeyer, who won the 500 free on Friday, also picked up a win in the 1000 free on Saturday. He touched the wall in 9:52.91.
 
West Chester travels to Division I Lehigh on Oct. 19.
