WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Brittany Sicinski led all Golden Rams in scoring with 12 points while Alexandra Lennon and Dallas Ely each contributed 11 points as host West Chester captured the 27
th annual Carol Eckman Classic with a 73-59 victory over visiting Philadelphia University Sunday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House.
West Chester (2-0) received a double-double from Lennon, who also grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots, handing Philadelphia (3-1) its first setback of the season.
The Golden Rams outscored the Rams, 14-5, over the last eight minutes of the first half to break a 14-14 tied and open up a 28-19 lead by halftime. PhilaU climbed back to within four early on in the second half. However, West Chester held its opponent scoreless for almost a four-minute stretch while expanding its lead to 37-24 with 15 minutes left.
Lennon blocked consecutive layup attempts from PhilaU center Tori Arnao, and Paige Elliott recorded five of her seven points during that decisive run.
Ely followed up her 16 points in the opener Saturday with another double-digit effort. Sicinski’s 12 points came off the bench as two of West Chester’s top three scoring leaders were freshmen.
Kendall Benovy scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Golden Rams’ bench outscored the starting five, 40-33. Brittany Powell also had eight points off the bench.
West Chester returns to action on Nov. 26 when it travels to University of the Sciences for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
