PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Corey Blake scored 16 points and Carl Johnson and Jon Breeden each added 15 as visiting West Chester defeated host University of the Sciences, 71-68, in a non-league men's basketball contest inside Morgan Arena Monday night.

West Chester (2-2) handed fifth-year head coach Damien Blair his 69th career win, tying him for fourth all-time on WCU's wins list. Johnson's 15 points came off the bench. Blake and Breeden each hit a pair of free throws in the final 22 seconds to keep USciences (1-6) at bay. Blake finished a perfect 6-for-6 from the line in the game while Breeden went 5-for-6.

West Chester scored 41 points in the second half to overcome UScience's nearly 50 percent shooting from the floor in the final 20 minutes. Johnson's 3-pointer with one minute left gave the Rams a 67-60 lead. The Devils closed the gap to a single possession on two occasions in the remaining time. However, Breeden and Blake's accuracy from the line iced the game.

A 3-pointer by Breeden with 17:53 left in the game gave West Chester its first lead of the contest. A layup by Troy Hockaday put the Golden Rams in front again - this time for good. USciences would even the score on two more occasions, but never did regain the lead.

The Golden Rams are off until Saturday when they open conference play against California (Pa.) at 3 p.m. inside Hollinger Field House. Sunday, Indiana (Pa.) comes calling to finish out the PSAC crossover opener.
