WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Lance McDowell scored 17 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead host West Chester to a 71-65 victory over East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House.
West Chester (15-9, 12-8 PSAC) moved into a tie for third place with East Stroudsburg (16-10, 12-8) one game behind both Bloomsburg and Kutztown, who are tied for first after the Golden Bears defeated the Huskies. The Golden Rams have now won six straight and nine of their last 10 as they continue to make a late-season push for a home game in the playoffs.
Carl Johnson drained a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to make it a two-possession game (69-65) and seal the victory. Jaleel Mack hit a layup at the buzzer for the final point total. West Chester had led by seven with 49 seconds left. However, ESU’s Russell Graham III hit a jumper, Duane Johnson stole the inbounds pass and Matt Tobin nailed the Warriors’ only 3-pointer of the contest to pull the visitors to within two (67-65).
West Chester takes on cross-county rival Cheyney next Wednesday evening in the team’s final regular-season home game of 2012.
