Schuler Sets Three Records; WCU Sets Four Team Marks At Ken Anderson Invite

Meet Results

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – It was a record day for West Chester University’s women’s gymnastics squad as the Golden Rams broke seven school records altogether while placing second at the Ken Anderson Invitational hosted by Temple University on Super Bowl Sunday.

Freshman Stephanie Schuler stole the spotlight from the Division I Temple Owls and regional foe Ursinus, breaking three individual marks. West Chester finished second behind Temple with a new school record score of 189.775. It marked the second time this year that the Rams’ gymnasts have bettered the school’s overall record. Temple won the meet with a 193.275 while Ursinus was third with a 182.050.

“Schuler was awesome,” WCU head coach Barbara Cordova said. “But, it truly was a good team effort today. All the girls really put it together. It certainly was a day for the record books.”

Schuler was the meet’s all-around winner with a score of 38.325. That was but one of her school records in Sunday’s meet. She also tied for first place with Temple’s Kaity Watson on the vault with a score of 9.75 that established a new individual school mark in that event. Schuler then placed second to Temple’s Corrine Williams on the uneven bars with a new school mark of 9.675 – just 0.025 off Williams’ winning score.

Schuler’s scores on both the vault and the bars helped West Chester set new team highs in both events. The Golden Rams scored a 47.900 on vault and a 47.425 on the bars. Emily Seigel tied her personal-best on the bars with a score of 9.55. That equaled her score at last year’s ECAC Championships.

Kaley LaFleur won the balance beam with a personal-best score of 9.775, helping West Chester to a score of 47.025 as the Golden Rams eclipsed 47 points in all four events.

West Chester will be back in action on Feb. 11 when the Golden Rams travel back to Upstate New York for the Big Red Invitational at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
