West Chester Women Dispatch Shippensburg, 8-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University claimed five of the six singles matches all in straight sets to defeat visiting Shippensburg, 8-1, in a PSAC East women’s tennis match Tuesday afternoon on South Campus.
 
West Chester (7-8, 2-2 PSAC East) ended a personal two-game slide in conference play and evened its league mark with the victory. Shippensburg (1-11, 1-3) dropped its third straight match.
 
The Golden Rams swept the doubles competition with three 8-1 verdicts to jump out in front and take control of the match. By the time Alex Santoro was done with her 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win at third singles, the match was West Chester’s. Nikki Paller was also a 6-0, 6-0 winner and finished up right before Santoro to give WCU a 4-0 cushion.
 
Brittany Counts was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at first singles while Ali Fetter was a 6-4, 6-0 victor at second singles. Haley Wissinger was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at fifth singles.
 
Counts and Fetter teamed up for an 8-1 win at first doubles while Wissinger and Paller were 8-1 winners at second doubles and Santoro and Rebecca Thiel were 8-1 winners at third doubles.
 
West Chester travels to Millersville on Thursday for another conference match.
