Bill Shuey Latest Addition To West Chester Football Coaching Staff

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University Football head coach Bill Zwaan announced the hiring of new assistant coach Bill Shuey Thursday morning.

Shuey provides the 2012 Golden Rams football team with a wealth of experience as a former assistant coach in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles. Shuey will mentor the inside linebackers on defense while with the Golden Rams.

Following a brief foray into teaching and coaching at the high school level, Shuey accepted a position with the Philadelphia Eagles as an assistant to head coach Andy Reid, as well as training camp coordinator from 2001 to 2003. Shuey was responsible for all aspects of mini-camp and training-camp, as well as acting as a liaison for the team’s head coach.

Shuey’s function within the organization expanded in 2003, becoming the offensive assistant and quality control coach. Shuey completed a myriad of duties, including the breakdown of offensive game-film, offensive statistical analysis, player and scheme evaluation, and the organization of pre-game warm-up schedules.

In 2007, Shuey transitioned to the defensive side of the ball, receiving the title of defensive assistant, while retaining the quality control coach moniker. Through analyzing an opponent’s offensive schemes, Shuey worked directly with the Eagles’ defensive coordinator in establishing the team’s defensive playbook and weekly game plans. The opportunity to gain insight from an NFL-level defensive coordinator would provide Shuey with invaluable knowledge for his coaching future.

In addition, Shuey facilitated linebacker meetings, practices, drills, and film studies. During the off-season, Shuey regularly analyzed defensive statistics and athletes as well as organized the scheme evaluation for the upcoming season.

Shuey received new responsibilities from the Eagles in 2008, accepting the position of linebacker coach.  In his new role, Shuey embraced the demands associated with the position. Prior to game day, he scheduled warm ups, drills, scheme installation, and communication signals for Eagles’ linebackers. On game day, Shuey made in-game adjustments, organized substitutions and signaled defensive calls.

Shuey received the honor of coaching the NFC Pro Bowl linebackers in 2009. While in Honolulu, he supervised practices and drills preceding the NFL’s all-star game. During the competition, Shuey oversaw defensive substitutions and alignments.

Following the conclusion of the 2011 NFL season, Shuey transitioned into a position with the Valley Forge Financial Group, ending his 10-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles. He currently assists clients in their future fiscal decisions.

Shuey received his bachelor’s of science degree in Sport Management with a minor in business administration from Slippery Rock University in 1995. He received his master’s degree in Physical Education from West Virginia University in 1998 where he was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Coach Shuey and his wife reside in Chester Springs, Pa.
