West Chester Picked Fourth In PSAC East Football Preseason Poll

WEST CHESTER, Pa. –
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Media Day officially kicked off the 2012 football season Monday at Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester. The Golden Rams were picked fourth in the Eastern Division when the preseason coaches’ poll was revealed.
 
Head coach Bill Zwaan was on hand and addressed the media after a buffet lunch was served to the eight PSAC East Division schools and attending media members. Also on hand from West Chester were student-athletes, John O’Donnell and Rondell White.

West Chester reports for preseason camp on Wednesday, Aug. 8th, with practices beginning on Thursday, Aug. 9th. The Golden Rams return 39 letterwinners, including 14 starters, this season. After winning the starting job in the spring, junior quarterback Sean McCartney will lead West Chester into its 91st season of college football when the Rams travel to DI-FCS regional rival Delaware on Aug. 30.

Defending Eastern Division champion Kutztown was picked as the preseason favorite by the coaches in the East. The Golden Bears received five first-place votes. Perennial power Bloomsburg was slated second, garnering three first-place votes. LIU-Post was third, followed by West Chester. Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg, Millersville and Cheyney rounded out the Eastern Division poll.
 
The PSAC Western Division held its media day at Slippery Rock University. California (Pa.) and Indiana (Pa.) finished tied atop the preseason poll out west. Cal received a pair of first-place votes while IUP picked up three. Defending champion Slippery Rock was third with two first-place tallies as well. Edinboro was slated fifth with Mercyhurst sixth. The Lakers garnered the final first-place vote out west. Gannon, Clarion and Lock Haven rounded out the rest of the Western Division poll.

The 2012 regular season kicks off at Delaware on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. West Chester opens its home slate the following weekend against Gannon at 12 p.m. on Hall of Fame Day.
