WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester won both of its matches Friday night at the seventh annual Ram Fest held inside Hollinger Field House. The Golden Rams topped Philadelphia University, 3-1, in the opener before dispatching Ohio Valley, 3-0, in the second game.
West Chester (8-4) has now won four matches in a row and seven of its last eight while improving to an astounding 22-1 in its own tournament.
In the opener, Julia O’Brien registered a team-high 12 kills while Lexi Kegerise and Cara Reese each had 11 while posting a hitting percentage above .400 for the match. Allison Grammar had nine kills as well.
Philadelphia University (4-2) took the opening set, 25-17. However, West Chester settled down and captured the next three sets consecutively, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-22. The Golden Rams registered 10 blocks in the match, led by Reese’s five assisted blocks and Kelly Martin and Grammar’s four assisted blocks each.
Mary Faust notched a season-high 23 assists in the win while Mandy Flynn added 18. Dana Markol led the Golden Rams with 14 digs. Kegerise had 12 digs, Faust contributed 11 and Morgan Litak had 10.
In the nightcap, West Chester swept Ohio Valley by scores of 25-10, 25-15, 25-20. Marina Sharkey had 12 kills to lead the way offensively for the Golden Rams. Faust and Flynn each posted a team-high 13 assists. Markol had another 16 digs for the Golden Rams as well.
O’Brien had five assisted blocks while Grammar and Sharkey each had a pair as well.
West Chester concludes the Ram Fest Tournament Saturday with two more matches. The Rams will play Daemen College at 10 a.m. and then take on Holy Family at 2 p.m.
