SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Top-ranked West Chester University survived a scare Friday afternoon with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over host Slippery Rock in a PSAC field hockey contest.
West Chester (8-1) trailed 2-1 late in second half when Kayla Gluchowski and Megan Callanan each scored goals to pull out the road win over Slippery Rock (6-4).
Gluchowski chipped the ball over the head of The Rock goalkeeper Courtney Lee in the 56th minute to knot things up at 2-2. Nine minutes later, Callanan banged home a cross from Kelsi Lykens to put the Golden Rams in front, 3-2.
Michele Schrift tipped in a shot from Lykens in the ninth minute to give West Chester a 1-0 lead. However, Slippery Rock's Allison Shade notched a pair of goals sandwiched around halftime to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.
Kristin Arnold (8-1) made five saves in the cage for West Chester, who outshot Slippery Rock by a 22-10 margin.
The Golden Rams travel to Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon for another PSAC crossover match with the Lakers.
