West Chester Men Top Mercyhurst, 2-1

ERIE, Pa. - West Chester University’s men’s soccer team downed Mercyhurst, 2-1, in a PSAC match Friday afternoon.
 
West Chester (3-3-2, 2-0-1 PSAC) remains unbeaten in conference play and evened its record overall while Mercyhurst (5-3-0, 3-1-0) suffered its first conference loss of the year.
 
West Chester goalkeeper, Garret Bleiler, put in a stellar second-half performance highlighted by a save on a Mercyhurst penalty kick late to preserve the Golden Rams’ 2-1 lead. Bleiler (3-2-2) made seven saves on eight shots in the win.
 
The Golden Rams started off strong with a goal four minutes into the game off a header by Taylor Eisenhauer on a corner kick from Roberto Silva. Mercyhurst tied things up on a goal from Alex Manea 10 minutes later. The Golden Rams struck back seven minutes after that with a well-placed pass by Brett Snyder to a streaking Christian Benner for what would be the game-winning goal.
 
The Golden Rams survived an onslaught of shots and corner kicks by Mercyhurst. The highlight of the second half was the save by Bleiler on the penalty kick opportunity for the Lakers.
 
Next up, the Golden Rams remain on the road for a 1 p.m. matchup against Gannon Saturday in Erie, Pa.
