Game Notes
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University's football squad opens its home slate Saturday versus Gannon University at John A. Farrell Stadium at 12 p.m. It is Hall of Fame Weekend as the Golden Rams face the Golden Knights for the first time.
Greg Fry and L.J. Harrell will call all the action from Farrell Stadium on WCHE 1520 AM radio. It can also be heard over the internet at http://www.wche1520am.com.
West Chester (0-1) is coming off a 41-21 loss at Delaware in the season opener last week while Gannon scored a 36-33 come-from-behind victory over Lake Erie College at home. The two schools have never met as this game is the final matchup of PSAC opponents to take place since the league expanded a few seasons ago.
At halftime, West Chester will introduce its seven new members of the WCU Athletics Hall of Fame along with members from the 1969 women's basketball team that won the first national tournament championship 43 years ago.
The Golden Rams will be without starting quarterback Sean McCartney for the remainder of the season. He broke his left ankle last week at Delaware and had surgery the next day. Senior Mike Mattei will take his place under center. Rams faithful should remember Mattei as he started 10 of 11 games during the 2010 campaign.
West Chester is 67-21-2 in home openers and is trying to regain that swagger it carried onto its own home field prior to 2010.
