West Chester Men Outlast Bloomsburg In Overtime, 88-82

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Jon Breeden led five West Chester players in double figures with 18 points as the visiting Golden Rams defeated host Bloomsburg, 88-82, in double overtime Saturday afternoon inside Nelson Field House.

West Chester (12-5, 10-3 PSAC) tied a school record for conference victories in a season while Bloomsburg (5-12, 3-10) has now lost three of its last four.
 
Bloomsburg’s Daniel Kusnyer forced overtime with a 3-pointer with :03 left in regulation that concluded a 12-5 run for the Huskies over the final two minutes of the second half and knotted the score at 76-all after 40 minutes of play.
 
Harley Williamson converted a tip-in in the paint, and Eric Frans hit a layup while Bloomsburg missed two 3-pointers as West Chester jumped on top by four (80-76) in the early stages of the overtime period.
 
The Huskies’ Nasir Jones converted a layup to cut the lead in half. However, Williamson and Breeden each knocked down a pair of free throws to push the Rams’ lead to six, 84-78. Bloomsburg’s Moustapha Noumbissi tipped in a rebound, before WCU’s Shannon Givens nailed one of two foul shots with :35 left in the OT, giving West Chester an 85-80 advantage.
 
Kusnyer hit a pair of free throws, before Breeden closed out the scoring with three out of four free throws.
 
West Chester’s accuracy from the line proved to be the difference. The Golden Rams went 35-for-42 (83.3 percent) from the foul line while the Huskies connected on just 25 of 38 freebies (65.8 percent).
 
Corey Blake finished with 16 points in support of Breeden’s team-high 18 points. Troy Hockaday and Jaleel Mack each posted 13 points while Carl Johnson had 10 in his first game back from an injury.
 
Bloomsburg’s Zach Sheetz registered a game-high 27 points. Jones scored 14.
 
The Golden Rams 10 conference wins marks the seventh time in school history that they have reached double figures and the first time since 2001-02. West Chester has now won seven of its last eight and is 8-2 in its last 10 outings.
 
West Chester returns home Wednesday for a PSAC East showdown with cross-county rival Cheyney inside Hollinger Field House at 5:30 p.m.
