West Chester Downs Brockport; Brannon Sets Individual Mark On Bars

Meet Results

West Chester, Pa. – Freshman Meghan Brannon set the individual school record on the uneven bars as host West Chester University’s women’s gymnastics squad downed visiting SUNY Brockport, 187.000-185.600 Saturday afternoon inside Sturzebecker HSC.

Junior Emily Siegel, one of West Chester’s top competitors on the bars, missed the meet due to injury. But, Brannon stepped up with a score of 9.775 to help the Golden Rams come out on top.

“That might have been the most exciting moment since I began coaching college gymnastics,” WCU head coach Barbara Cordova beamed. “I saw her score go up, and I could not have been more excited for her. She is a really good gymnast, and she knows how to swing those bars.

“We have had four gymnasts go down to injury, and I asked the freshmen to step up,” Cordova continued. “I told them, ‘We need you’. I just could not be more proud of them. This was their chance to shine, and they really did.”

The Golden Rams won the uneven bars with three out of the top four scores, including Brannon’s first-place, record-setting score. Karen Laskaris finished second behind Brannon with a score of 9.550. Paige Griffin finished fourth, landing a score of 9.475.

Senior Kaley LaFleur took home second place on the vault with a score of 9.475 while fellow teammate Melissa Prisco was able to grab fifth with a score of 9.425.

The girls were able to hold onto a win on the beam. Brockport’s Amanda Rota won the event, but both freshman Lindsay Knapp and teammate Patti Konschak of West Chester were able to grab the second and third place slots, registering scores of 9.475 and 9.450 to boost their team to the win.

“This win gives us so much confidence as we deal with the adversity so far this season,” Cordova explained. “We had to count a few falls today, but this showed that we can win these types of meets.”

The Golden Rams took three out of the top four spots on the floor exercise. Knapp registered a score of 9.575 to put her in first, and Brannon finished in third with a score of 9.450.

LaFleur tied for second with a score of 9.475 on the floor exercise, helping her team to the win over Brockport.
