CLARION, Pa. – Senior Ambreelinne Ortman registered a season-high 19 points, and Paige Elliott and Dallas Ely each contributed 11 points, as visiting West Chester topped host Clarion, 74-60, inside Tippin Gym in a PSAC women’s basketball contest Friday night.
West Chester (6-4, 3-3 PSAC) ended its brief two-game losing streak with its second win over Clarion (5-6, 2-4) in as many years.
The Golden Rams led nearly the entire game. Ortman drained a 3-pointer just over one minute into the tilt, giving the visitor’s a 3-2 lead. That sparked a 10-0 run by the Rams, following the Eagles’ opening bucket, and West Chester never trailed again. Clarion got as close as seven points with 3:45 left in the game, but could not get any closer.
Freshman Dallas Ely and senior Paige Elliott each reached double figures as well in the win. Alex Lennon had eight points and nine rebounds. She also blocked three shots, giving her 240 in her career and moving her past former East Stroudsburg forward Sue Richards and into fifth place on the PSAC’s all-time list.
The Golden Rams’ picked up its defensive effort in the second half, limiting the Golden Eagles to 28 points after the break. WCU allowed just 10 baskets in the final 20 minutes as the visitor’s were able to maintain a double-digit lead for the majority of the half.
West Chester’s road trip continues on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at Lock Haven.
