CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Conor Malarney scored his 10
th of the year midway through the first half, and
Tommy Ryan added an insurance goal in the 80
th minute to lead West Chester to 2-0 victory over host California, Pa. in PSAC action Friday afternoon.
Ryan Shultz extended his shutout streak in PSAC action to over 690 minutes, with his seventh straight clean sheet in goal for the Golden Rams (10-3-2, 8-1-1 PSAC). The Vulcans (5-9-1, 2-5-1 PSAC) outshot West Chester 3-1 in the first half.
Malarney opened the scoring after he received a
Alex Caplan pass on the right wing, to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead in the 16
th minute.
The goal moved him into third place in career goal scoring with 23 all-time at West Chester. He is the first Golden Rams player to score in double figures since John McGlone with 10 and Ryan Sekkes had 11 in 2003
Ryan gave the Rams some breathing room with his third of the year knocking home a rebound off of a corner, with ten minutes left.
West Chester has won 10 games for the first time since 2008, it also set a record for most consecutive conference games without a loss with nine, and tied the school record of seven consecutive conference victories.
Shultz made three saves in adding to his single-season school record with his eighth shutout of year. Alex Heston made one save in goal for the Vulcans.
The Golden Rams with 25 points are in second place in the conference, two behind Mercyhurst.
West Chester travels to take on #23 Slippery Rock on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Rock (11-2-1, 6-2 PSAC) are in a tie for third place with Millersville (9-4-1, 6-2 PSAC) with 18 points.
