Three Goal Outburst Lifts No. 5 Field Hockey to a 3-2 win at The Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – No. 5 West Chester scored three times in a minute three to erase a 1-0 deficit en route to a 3-2 PSAC regular-season ending victory at Slippery Rock.

The Golden Rams finished in third place with a 13-4, 8-2 PSAC record, and will host East Stroudsburg in the opening round of the PSAC tournament on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Marnie Kusavakitch scored West Chester's first goal for the third consecutive game. She had to wait until the 48:23 mark to accomplish the task and score her seventh of her rookie season, from Megan Callanan, and ignite a three goal outburst.

Lauren McGinley followed with her seventh of the year 41 seconds later, from Kelsey Cheek, and Alayna Brown ended the flurry with her eighth from McGinley 22 seconds after that.

The Rock opened the scoring, in the 10th minute off a corner, and led for 38 minutes before McGinley put the Golden Rams ahead to stay. Slippery made it close in the 59th minute again off a corner, but could not test the West Chester keeper in the final minutes.

Audree Bonavita was not credited with a save in picking up the victory. Carlee Dumars made seven saves in goal for The Rock.

Tthe PSAC Tournament gets under way Tuesday at 4p.m., with a quarterfinal match against East Stroudsburg at Vonnie Gros Field. The Golden Rams defeated the Warriors 8-1 in a non-league contest at home, and were 4-2 winners in a conference game in East Stroudsburg.
