LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – West Chester University junior middle linebacker, Ronell Williams
(Chester, Pa. / Chester) has been nominated for the Cliff Harris award given to the top defensive player in small college football.
Williams was once again a member of the first-team ALL-PSAC team at linebacker. The junior led the Golden Rams with 80 tackles, 7.5 behind the line of scrimmage, including 3.5 sacks with 2 interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
Last season, as a sophomore, Williams led the PSAC in tackles and received six postseason accolades including: first team All-League, first team honoree All-Region, DII AFCA All-American Honors, Associated Little Press All-American, DII All-Super Region 1, and was a D2football.com honorable mention All-America.
Williams is tied for second all-time with 170 assisted tackles in his career, and sits eighth all-time at West Chester in total tackles.
The winner will receive a trophy depicting an offensive player being jolted off his feet by a defensive player as the ball falls to the turf.
The Cliff Harris Award will be given to the top defensive player chosen from among Division II, Division III and NAIA colleges and universities. It's named for former Ouachita Baptist University safety Cliff Harris who went on to a professional career with the Dallas Cowboys that included five Super Bowl appearances.
Finalists will be announced Dec. 4 and the winner will be named on Dec. 24.
