MERCYHURST, Pa. – No. 13 Mercyhurst advanced to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference finals with a 3-0 victory over no.20 West Chester, Friday at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
The loss was the first for West Chester (12-3-3) since early October, ending the Golden Rams 10 game winning streak. West Chester is ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region, and awaits the NCAA selection show on Monday to see if its season will continue.
The top four in the region make the NCAA Tournament.
Mercyhurst (15-4) plays the winner of the other semifinal match between Slippery Rock and Millersville.
Danny Deakin opened the scoring in the 10
th minute sending home a pass from Jack Watson who headed a long ball from Ryan Lund. Deakin chipped the ball over Ryan Shultz in goal for the Golden Rams.
The Lakers controlled the play registering 12 shots at goal in the half to just two for West Chester.
Ryan Shultz made three saves in the first half.
David Dougherty headed in a corner for Mercyhurst in the 64
th minute to widen the lead to 2-0.

Sarkkinen again until the 75
th minute on a header by
Miguel Ross.
With the Golden Rams pressing, the Lakers added a third in the 80th minute, when Watson converted a pass from Deakin after a long clear from Sten Marcson.
Ryan Shultz made six saves in goal for West Chester, Sarkkinen faced five shots in recording the shutout, four coming in the last 15 minutes.
