Golden Rams Drop Another Last-Second Heartbreaker At Slippery Rock, 62-60

Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Josh Martin hit a layup while being fouled, and knocked down the ensuing foul shot, lifting host Slippery Rock to a 62-60 victory over visiting West Chester in a non-conference men's basketball contest Wednesday night inside Morrow Field House.

West Chester (6-4) has now dropped three of its last four contests with two of those coming in the final seconds on their opponent's final shot. Slippery Rock (9-3) rebounded from its loss to PSAC East power East Stroudsburg, splitting its two games against a pair of teams that each reached the conference semifinals last March.

Troy Hockaday led the Golden Rams with 11 points.

West Chester led for all but 58 seconds of the game. After Slippery Rock's Tabari Perry put The Rock in front by a point with the first bucket of the second half, the Golden Rams' Eric Franz tipped-in a missed jumper on WCU's next trip down the court, and the visitors never trailed again until 27 ticks remained in the game.

Shannon Givens made a layup with 12 seconds to go in the game to briefly give the Golden Rams a 60-59 advantage. However, Martin would lay in a shot of his own and get fouled with three ticks left to hand the game to the hosts.

There were four ties and nine lead changes in the closely-knit contest. West Chester's biggest lead only reached nine.

Matt Wisely scored 10 points for the Golden Rams. Cory Blake had nine points and eight rebounds.

West Chester returns home from its two games in two days road swing out west to host another PSAC West foe, Edinboro, inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
