WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Eddie Mitchell poured in a season-high 29 points to lead four players in double figures as host West Chester topped visiting Edinboro, 84-77 in a non-league PSAC West crossover basketball contest inside Hollinger Field House Saturday.
West Chester (7-4) halted a modest two-game losing streak with the win while Edinboro (5-5) has now dropped three of its last four and two in a row.
Trailing 79-71 with 1:38 to play in the game, Edinboro's Johnathan Logan nailed a 3-pointer to bring Edinboro within five points. After West Chester's Cory Blake made one of two free throws, The Fighting Scots' Jonny Marsh connected on another 3-point shot to cut the Rams' lead to 80-77 with just a minute remaining. However, West Chester made all four of its free throw attempts in the final minute of the contest to seal an 84-77 victory in a game in which the Rams never trailed.
Troy Hockaday added 14 points for the Golden Rams while Shannon Givens and R.J. Griffin each contributed 11 points off the bench in the win. Eric Frans had eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
West Chester returns home on Jan. 3-4 for another pair of PSAC West crossover games with Mercyhurst and Gannon. Each contest begins at 3 p.m.
