West Chester Diamondmen Fall To No. 3 Tampa, 7-4

TAMPA, Fla. – Jack Provine and Rob Spekhardt each hit home runs, but the third-ranked Tampa Spartans came away with a 7-4 victory over visiting West Chester at Spartan Field in a non-league baseball game Tuesday evening.
 
West Chester (7-8-1) jumped out in front with a run in the top of the first. However, Tampa (20-4) scored runs in each of the first four frames to take a 6-3 lead into the fifth.
 
Chris Pula singled up the middle with two outs, scoring Provine from second in the first inning. When Tampa answered with a tally of its own in the bottom of the first, Spekhardt hit his first career home run over the right-center field fence with Kyle Frazier aboard to give the Golden Rams a 3-1 advantage.
 
The Spartans answered that with a pair of runs in both the second and the third, before tacking on another in the fourth.
 
Provine then went yard in the fifth to draw West Chester within two (6-4). Tampa added a run in the bottom of the eighth to close out the scoring.
 
Alec Schwartz (0-1) went 2.2 innings in his first start of the season. He allowed five runs on six hits and walked one. Brent Roehrich threw 3.1 innings in relief, yielding one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out four. Ryan Swearingen came on for two innings to finish off the game. He allowed one run on one hit. He walked two.
 
Offensively, Provine went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Frazier hit his third double of the season.
 
West Chester takes on PSAC West rival Lock Haven Wednesday morning before heading back north.
