Spezialetti's Walk-Off Single Lifts West Chester Over Lock Haven, 5-4

Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Ben Spezialetti singled in Jack Provine in the bottom of the ninth with the game-winning run as West Chester University topped Lock Haven, 5-4, on the final day of the Golden Rams' trip to the Sunshine State to compete in the Russmatt Invitational.

West Chester (8-8-1) evened its record on the season and made a winner out of reliever Kyle Weary (1-0) in the process. Lock Haven dropped to 4-8 on the year as the Bald Eagles wrapped up play at the Russmatt Invitational as well.

Provine was hit by a pitch to lead off the ninth, and then Chris Pula was intentionally walked with one out. Spezialetti singled, scoring Provine from second with the winning run to end the game.

Weary, who threw six innings of relief in the second game of the doubleheader against Minnesota-Duluth on Monday, pitched the top of the ninth and picked up his first win of the season.

Greg McCuch (2-0) tossed eight innings, scattering five hits and allowing four runs, only three earned, while walking two and striking out three. He turned in his best pitching performance of the season when West Chester needed it most, at the tail end of its southern trip.

Nick Bonadies went 3-for-4 while Tyler Coleman was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Lamborn was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

West Chester opens PSAC East play on Friday at home at Serpico Stadium with a doubleheader against Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. The Golden Rams will take on Bloomsburg again on Saturday in a doubleheader.
