TAMPA, Fla. – Haley Wissinger came up with a three-set win at fifth singles to clinch West Chester’s second win of the day, 5-4, over Ave Maria University, on the campus of Hillsborough Community College Thursday afternoon.
West Chester (6-6) evened its record on the season and finished up its Spring Break trip to Florida in strong fashion.
Wissinger rallied for a 7-3 win in a tie-breaker format in the third set to pick up the win. Wissinger was a 6-2 winner in the first set, before dropping a 6-4 decision in the second.
Jess Marassio and Heather Hidalgo teamed up at third doubles for an 8-5 win in their first start of the 2013 campaign. That win turned out to be very important in the match. Brittany Counts and Ali Fetter were 8-4 winners at first doubles as West Chester claimed a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition.
West Chester opens PSAC East play hosting East Stroudsburg on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
