WEST CHESTER, Pa. –Alex Santoro was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at third singles to lead host West Chester to a 7-2 win over PSAC East rival East Stroudsburg in the conference opener for both schools.
West Chester (7-6, 1-0 PSAC East) won its third straight match, while East Stroudsburg (3-7, 0-1) saw its three-match winning streak come to a close.
First and third doubles went to West Chester by identical scores of 8-2. Brittany Counts and Ali Fetter got the “W” in the first position while Heather Hidalgo and Jess Marascio picked up the win in the third spot. Meanwhile, Santoro and Haley Wissinger came from behind at second doubles to pull out a 9-7 victory and complete the sweep of the doubles competition.
Wissinger and Santoro fell behind, 6-5, in their set, before rallying to win. The Golden Rams’ duo captured the next two sets to take a 7-5 lead. Wissinger and Santoro dropped the next set, but buckled down and did not surrender a point the rest of the way in taking an 8-6 victory.
Brittany Counts was a straight-set winner at first singles while Wissinger and Nicole Nardi were also straight-set winners at fifth and sixth singles.
West Chester hosts Division III foe Randolph-Macon College Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
