West Chester Splits Doubleheader with Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Chris Pula’s sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh pushed across the go-ahead run as visiting West Chester managed a split of its PSAC East baseball doubleheader at Mansfield with a 5-4 win. The Mountaineers took the opener, 8-3, at Shaute Field.
 
West Chester (16-9-1, 7-1 PSAC East) picked up its first road win of the season. The Golden Rams are now 1-5 on the road. They also kept pace with Kutztown, who split a doubleheader at Shippensburg.
 
Pula finished game two 2-for-3 with three RBI and a stolen base. Jack Provine was 2-for-4.
 
Kyle Weary (2-0) pitched the final 2.1 innings in relief without allowing a run to get the win. He now sports a 0.46 ERA on the club. Conor Kerins started and lasted 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three.
 
In the opener, Greg McCuch (1-1) got his first conference start. He pitched five innings, giving up six runs, only three of which were earned, on six hits. He walked one and struck out four.
 
West Chester is off until April 10 when the Golden Rams host Wilmington University for the first round of the Bill Giles Classic against the Wildcats.
