Dramatic Comeback Falls Short Against Kutztown

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Host West Chester won four straight singles matches to knot things up, but visiting Kutztown stole a three-set win at sixth singles in the final event of the day to walk away with the 5-4 win in a PSAC women’s tennis match Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (10-6, 2-1 PSAC) downed Bloomsburg on Friday, 7-2, but could not finish off the back-to-back wins over two of the conference’s top programs.

Freshman Nicole Nardi dropped a 7-6 (5), 0-6, 6-2 decision to Chelsea Davis that ended a marathon match, which lasted just under five hours on South Campus.

The Golden Rams dropped all three doubles matches and a loss at first singles left the hosts trailing 4-0. However, West Chester rallied for wins at second, third, fourth and fifth singles, respectively, to set up the drama at sixth singles to decide the match.

“It was a tough loss,” WCU head coach Tina Tharp said. “But, we fought hard in the singles and got back into the match. It’s a learning less, and next time, we will come out with the win.”

Ali Fetter pulled out a three-set win at second singles while Alex Santoro and Jami Dumler were straight-set winners at third and fourth singles. Haley Wissinger was pushed to three sets, but came out with the win as well. In all, three of the six singles matches went three sets.

West Chester travels to Shippensburg on Tuesday for another PSAC match.
