West Chester Sees Familiar Foe in PSAC Semifinals Friday

INDIANA, Pa. – West Chester Universit’sy men’s basketball team heads to Indiana, Pa., as to tip it up against nationally ranked No. 13, IUP in the PSAC semifinals Friday at the Kovalchick Convocation and Athletics Complex.
 
Tickets are $14 for adults (two-day passes sold on Friday), or $8 on Saturday only. A $2 facility fee will be added to each ticket purchased. Student tickets are $5 for the two-day pass and $3 on Saturday only, plus the facility fee. Students from member PSAC institutions will be admitted free with a valid school ID.  Fans can order tickets by phone at: 1-800-298-4200, or they can order tickets online at www.kovalchickcomplex.com, or www.comcastTix.com.
 
The Golden Rams have made nine total appearances in the conference final four since the PSAC began the tournament format in 1981. This is the second year in a row that West Chester (20-7) will face IUP (22-5) in the semifinals.  Last year’s meeting was held at West Chester in the Hollinger field house.  IUP was nationally ranked last year as well. But, the Golden Rams came away with the win, 54-51, on a game-winning 3-pointer from Jon Breeden in the final seconds of the game.
 
West Chester beat visiting Millersville Tuesday to advance to the semifinals. Troy Hockaday led the team to victory with a career-high 24 points. The team forced Millersville into 21 turnovers and outscored the Marauders by 15 at the foul line.
 
The Crimson Hawks are coming off of an overtime thriller against Edinboro on Tuesday, eventually winning, 89-87. Efforts were led by Mathis Keita and Scooter Renkin. Keita hit a career-high as Renkin tied his career-high, They both hit 25 points while holding off visiting Edinboro. 
 
The top seed in the West, IUP will host both semifinal matchups Friday and the PSAC Championship Game Saturday night. The other semifinal on Friday between East Stroudsburg and Slippery Rock is set for a 5:30 p.m. tip while the Crimson Hawks will host the Golden Rams in the nightcap at approximately 7:30 p.m. The two winners meet on Saturday at 7 p.m.
