East Stroudsburg Sweeps Doubleheader From West Chester

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – West Chester dropped a pair of two-run ballgames to PSAC East rival East Stroudsburg Sunday afternoon at Mitterling Field.

West Chester (17-13-1, 8-4 PSAC East) lost its first conference series of the season, dropping three of four to East Stroudsburg (21-9, 7-5), who has now won 10 of its last 11. The Golden Rams are currently in third place in the PSAC Eastern Division standings.

West Chester left runners on second and third in the top of the seventh to end the nightcap. The Golden Rams were limited to just two hits in game two, falling 3-1. West Chester dropped a 4-2 decision in the opener when East Stroudsburg scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

That’s how close all four of these games this weekend were.

The Rams scored their lone run of game two in the top of the first when Chris Pula hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Ben Spezialetti. Kyle Frazier singled in the seventh and Justin Lamborn singled in the first for West Chester’s only two hits on ESU starter Keenan Stare (3-1) and reliever Colin Kelly (1).

ESU scored one run in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth of game one to come from behind to capture that tilt. Matt McAllister (0-4) held down the Warriors until he ran into trouble in the sixth. He only yielded three hits in 5.2 innings while striking out seven. However, he walked five and hit three batters.

West Chester opens a four-game series with Shippensburg next Friday and Saturday.
