WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Millersville’s Nicole Daake won a three-set match over Jami Dumler at fourth singles to complete a come-from-behind victory for the visiting Marauders over host West Chester in the PSAC Quarterfinals of the women’s tennis conference tournament Tuesday afternoon.
Dumler captured the first set of the match, 6-3, but dropped sets two and three, 6-2 and 6-3, to pick up the fifth and deciding match Tuesday. Daake’s win at fourth singles was the third straight win for Millersville, who fell behind 4-2 after half of the singles matches had completed.
Millersville advances to the PSAC semifinals this weekend and will take on the top seed in the Western Division, California, Pa., at 9 a.m. on Friday. The other semifinal pits the Mercyhurst vs. Indiana, Pa. winner, which will be played on Wednesday, against the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Division, Kutztown. The PSAC Championships will be held at Indiana, Pa.
The Marauders were straight-set winners at first and fifth singles to tie things up at 4-4. Millersville’s Melissa Plowman fell behind 3-0 to West Chester’s Brittany Counts in the first set of their match at No. 1 singles. However, Plowman won six straight to claim the opening set, 6-3. Then, Plowman picked up another 6-3 win in the second set to take the point. She won 12 of the last 15 games in her match to claim the victory.
At fifth singles, Tori Davis was a 7-6, 6-2 winner over Haley Wissinger to tie the match at 4-apiece.
West Chester fell behind 2-1 after doubles play concluded. Millersville won 8-0 at first doubles and then took a close 8-5 decision at third doubles while the Golden Rams’ contingent of Alex Santoro and Nicole Nardi were 8-6 winners at second doubles.
Santoro tied up the match with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles while Ali Fetter followed up with a 6-1, 6-2 winner at second singles to put the Rams in front, 3-2. Nicole Nardi finished off a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alexandra Haller at sixth singles that put the Golden Rams on top, 4-2.
