LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester University Men’s tennis player J.J. Cooke has been named PSAC Athlete of the week for the week of April 15th.
Cooke is the second Golde Rams' tennis player to be honored by the league in its weekly voting. David Goldenberg was also honored earlier in the season.
Cooke defeated Mercyhurst's Mike Vinopal in straight sets to clinch a 5-4 victory for West Chester. More importantly, however, Cooke held the Golden Rams clinch first place in the regular-season standings and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. Cooke also defeated Edinboro's James Cooper, 7-5, 6-2, which tied the match at 4-4. Cooke trailed in the first set, 4-1, before rallying to win 7-5.
Cooke has improved his record to 11-1 on the season while currently enjoying a 10-match winning streak. He is 4-0 in the PSAC and has found a comfortable spot in the sixth singles position, where he has played all of his matchups.
With a recent win on April 17th, Cooke and the Golden Rams improved their overall record to an even 9-9 as they get ready for the 2013 PSAC Semifinals this weekend in Indiana, Pa., as they take on Edinboro.
