Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Chris Pula’s two-out double down the right-field line scored Jack Provine from second with the game-winning run as host West Chester managed a split with visiting Shippensburg with a come-from-behind 9-8 win in the nightcap Saturday at Serpico Stadium.

West Chester (18-14-1, 9-5 PSAC East) dropped a 5-3 decision in the opener to Shippensburg (20-17, 7-11).

Provine was 5-for-5 with four runs scored and a RBI in the second game. He finished the day 5-for-7 with six runs scored. Pula doubled in both the sixth and the seventh innings in the second game as West Chester scored three times in those two frames to eliminate an 8-6 deficit and make a winner out of reliever Kyle Weary (3-0).

The Golden Rams put up three runs in each of its first two times at bat thanks in large part to senior Justin Lamborn. Lamborn hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the first and then scored on a passed ball. He then hit a two-run double in the second. Tyler Coleman had scored on a ground ball earlier in the frame. Lamborn finished game two 3-for-4 with four RBI.

Shippensburg came roaring back with four runs in the second and four more in the fourth to take an 8-6 lead. That is the way things stayed until the sixth.

Raiders’ left-handed reliever Austin Bartley (1-2) got out of a jam in the sixth, but did not have so much luck again in the seventh. He suffered the loss.

In the opener, Shippensburg scored four runs in the top of the seventh with a two-run homer from Tyler Shover highlighting the frame to take a 5-3 win. West Chester had scored in the bottom of the sixth to move ahead, 2-1. However, the Raiders bats finally got to starter Joe Gunkel (5-3) in their final try.

Mike Raimo doubled to right-center in the bottom of the seventh, scoring pinch-runner Ben Spezialetti, but West Chester left the tying runs on second and third to end the game. Bartley came on for his second save of the season in relief of Marcus Shippey. Pat Kregeloh (6-3) earned the win on the mound in game one for the Raiders.

West Chester and Shippensburg go at it again on Sunday in Shippensburg to complete their four-game series. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
