MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – West Chester University’s baseball team was swept by Millersville for the second time in as many days, dropping a 7-4 decision in the opener and an 8-7 affair in extra innings Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (18-22-1, 9-11 PSAC East) falls into a tie for fourth place with Shippensburg in the Eastern Division while No. 18/28 Millersville (24-12, 16-4) completes the season sweep of the Golden Rams and holds onto first place in the division standings.
The Marauders scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 7-2 deficit and force extra innings. West Chester had scored two in the third, one each in the fourth and fifth and three more in the sixth. Millersville matched West Chester’s single tallies in the fourth and fifth. However, it was the five-spot in the bottom of the sixth that answered the Rams’ three runs in the top half which took some of the wind out of WCU’s sails.
Chris Pula went 2-for-4 in the second game. He was the only Golden Rams’ player with multiple hits.
West Chester will play Chestnut Hill in a non-league mid-week showdown, before the Golden Rams play Kutztown in a four-game series next weekend.
