WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University swept the doubles and singles competition to earn a 9-0 victory over cross-county rival Cheyney University in a PSAC East women's tennis match Tuesday afternoon.
Jami Dumler, Heather Hidalgo, Jess Marascio, Emily Epler and Mackenzie Breinlinger were all 6-0, 6-0 straight-set winners for the Golden Rams at Nos. 1 through 5 singles, respectively. Nicole Nardi picked up a win by default at sixth singles.
Hidalgo and Marascio teamed up for an 8-0 win at first doubles while Epler and Breinlinger were also 8-0 winners. Alex Santoro, two-time reigning athlete of the week in the PSAC East, teamed with Nardi at third doubles for another win by default.
West Chester (13-7, 5-1 PSAC East) concluded its regular-season schedule with Tuesday's win. The Golden Rams have clinched a playoff spot and a home match in the PSAC Quarterfinals, which will be held one week from today. West Chester is 5-1 in conference play and will finish second in the league standings. Kutztown (5-0) is currently in first place with just one conference match left to play against East Stroudsburg on Friday. However, the Bears hold the tie-breaker by virtue of its win over WCU head-to-head.
