WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Hannah Davies scored her first career goal early in the second half, to break a 1-1 tie, to give West Chester University a 2-1 victory over Indiana University of Pennsylvania, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener for both schools Friday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
The Golden Rams, (5-2, 1-0 PSAC) who had to come from behind to capture an overtime win at IUP earlier in the month, never trailed in the contest. IUP (1-6, 0-1 PSAC) tied the game midway through the first half on Paige Mosners' third of the year.
West Chester struck first when
Kelsi Lykens ) slapped home her sixth of the season from
Stef Pirri , that came off a penalty corner.
The winning goal came off a corner that led to a scramble in front of the net sent into the net by Davies for the juniors' first career point.
The Golden Rams ended the game with a 17- 0 advantage in penalty corners, and a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Audree Bonavita was in the net for West Chester,
Darian Shuker kept IUP in the game with seven stops, including saving a penalty shot by
Nancy Stehman in the first half.
The Golden Rams are back at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday at 1 PM for a PSAC battle with Seton Hill.
