WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Megan Callanan (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) knocked in two first half goals, as top ranked West Chester University began its home slate with an 8-3 victory over Lindenwood University.
West Chester (2-0) was in command throughout and led 4-0 at halftime, holding a 16-4 advantage in shots. Linwood (0-2), the Missouri school in its second game of the weekend in Pa., showed great resolve and pulled within 5-3 midway through the second half. The Golden Rams then responded with two goals from Kelsi Lykens (Mohrsville, Pa. / Schuykill) to regain control.
Callanan's first goal came off a scramble in front of the net, at 13:00; she scored again three and a half minutes later on a pass from Kelsey Cheek (Mays Landing, N.J. / Oakcrest). Cheek then added a goal, to give West Chester control. Kristi O'Connor scored twice and added an assist for Linwood in the second half. Lykens scored with just over five minutes remaining to give the Golden Rams some breathing room, and salted the game away when she slapped one in off a corner.
Freshman Sarah Krause (Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) (2-0) made seven saves in goal for West Chester, to start her career 2-0. Gil Victoria (0-2) stopped sixteen shots for Lindenwood.
West Chester travels to Shippensburg on Tuesday at 4 PM, to open up the PSAC season, followed by a Saturday game at Indiana (Pa.) at 11 AM.
