Ely's Layup Completes the Comeback 87-86 at Shippensburg

Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – So. Dallas Ely saved her best for last, scoring on a layup with 1.6 seconds left to lift West Chester to a key 87-86 come-from-behind road win at Shippensburg, Wednesday night in PSAC East action inside Heiges Field House.

The Golden Rams (11-5, 6-0 PSAC East) led only twice in the game - 2-1 early on and then Ely's bucket at the end for the victory. The Raiders (9-6, 3-2), who fell for a second consecutive contest, held a 68-54 lead with 13 minutes remaining, only to see West Chester finish the game on a 33-18 run.

The Golden Rams trailed by three, when Ely missed a 3-point shot with 29 seconds remaining. But Anna Kuntz grabbed the offensive rebound and fed it back to Ely, who hit a triple to tie the game at 85-85.

Shippensburg's Morgan Griffith, who pulled down 17 rebounds, was fouled and made one of two free throws with 11 ticks left, to put the Raiders back in the lead by one at 86-85. West Chester then got the ball to Ely, who put home the winning basket on a runner in the lane for the final two of her game-high 24.

Ely had eight rebounds and six assists to go with her 24. Kendall Benovy scored 17, adding six boards, Brittany Sicinski collected six steals and scored 14 points, and Kuntz grabbed eight boards, scored 10 points, and blocked four shots as the Golden Rams held an 11-3 edge in blocks.

West Chester held a 42-28 edge in points in the paint for the game, and an 18-8 advantage in second-chance points. Shippensburg was held to 11 of 40 (27.5 percent) shooting in the second half, while West Chester connected on 18 of 36 (50 percent) and outscored the Raiders, 46-37, over the final 20 minutes.

West Chester returns home to host PSAC East rival Bloomsburg, in another important contest, on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Hollinger Field House.
