Sean McCartney Named PSAC East Offensive Player Of The Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester Univesity Sr., QB Sean McCartney (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division offensive player of the week for the second time this season.

McCartney went 17-for-29 for 393 yards and five touchdowns to lead West Chester to a 55-28 victory over Shippensburg on Saturday. McCartney tied a career high with his five TD passes, marking the second time this season and fourth time in his career that McCartney has registered five TD tosses in a game. It is also the second time in his career that he threw five TDs against Shippensburg. He also threw five TD passes against the Raiders in his first college start in 2010.

McCartney threw four of his five touchdowns in the first half while throwing for 259 yards when West Chester built a 34-14 lead on Shippensburg. His first play from scrimmage in the first quarter went for a 90-yard touchdown to tight end Tim Brown. His fifth TD pass was a 48-yard strike to Erick Brundidge on the first play from scrimmage in the second half.

The sixth-year signal caller leads the PSAC in pass efficiency (175.8) and is second in passing yards (2,235) and touchdowns (25).

In his 30th career start, McCartney led West Chester to a win for the 23rd time. In the process, he has thrown for 8,086 yards and 75 touchdowns. He is now 548-for-927 in his career, and his 59.1 career completion percentage is currently the highest in school history. He ranks fourth all-time in passing yards (8,086), fifth in completions (548), fifth in attempts (927) and fourth in touchdowns (75). He surpassed Al Niemela (1985-88) on both the all-time passing yards and passing TDs list. With five more TD passes this year, McCartney will become just the third player in school history to throw for more than 8,000 yards and 80 TDs (Mike Mitros [1996-99] 9,834-94; Dave McDonald [1991-94] 9,080-89).

McCartney leads the 10th-ranked Golden Rams into Bloomsburg for the most anticipated matchup of the football season to date this coming weekend. Saturday's showdown at Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium pits the only two conference schools still unbeaten. Both West Chester and Bloomsburg are 7-0 and could very likely be ranked in the Top 10 when the new AFCA Division II Coaches' Poll is released on Monday.
