No. 18 West Chester Staves Off Late East Stroudsburg Rally, 35-24

Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - RB Brandon Monk (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) posted a career day, rushing for 257 yards on 36 carries in leading 18th-ranked West Chester to a 35-24 win over East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon inside Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Sr., QB Sean McCartney (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) also shined, throwing for 172 yards and three touchdowns, including his 80th career TD toss to TE Tim Brown (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby). Brown and WR Mike Doty (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) were McCartney's primary targets, combining for 116 yards as Brown caught two touchdowns passes and Doty hauled in one in the high-scoring affair.

West Chester (9-1, 8-1 PSAC) led the game, 21-0, in the late stages of the second half. But, East Stroudsburg (6-4, 5-4 PSAC) battled back by scoring a touchdown with three seconds to go, after a muffed punt, to cut the lead to 21-7 heading into the half. The Warriors scored a touchdown on their first drive of the second half, and a field goal to complete their second drive of the stanza, to cut the lead to four, 21-17. However, that is where the line was drawn by the Golden Rams' defense, which would not allow them to get past that point.

Brandon Pepper (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) intercepted an East Stroudsburg pass at the Golden Rams' 4-yard line with six minutes remaining in the game, and Monk went back to work wasting the rest of the game on West Chester's ensuing drive.

Monk's 257 rushing yards is the fifth-most in a single game in West Chester history and most since D'Andre Webb rushed for a school record 306 yards back in 2008.

Warriors' R-So., QB Bruce Campbell completed 20 of 51 passes for 266 yards to go with three touchdowns and three interceptions. He started his second straight game for the injured Matt Soltes. WR Dusty Reed led the receiving corp with 152 yards.

West Chester will head to Indiana (Pa.) to wrap up the regular season next week on Nov. 15 at 1 p.m.
