WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Visiting University of Sciences pulled out a three-set victory at fifth singles to capture a 5-4 victory from host West Chester Univesity on a sunny, but windy and blustery day on South Campus Monday in a non-league men's tennis match.
West Chester (3-6) has now dropped four straight. It was the Golden Rams' first action since spring break due to many cancellations from the recent string of bad weather.
Andrew Peterson dropped a 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 match at fifth singles, playing a tie-breaker set in the third. J.J. Cooke registered a 6-2, 6-4 win at sixth singles to even up the match at 4-apiece. Lars Kristiansen also won at fourth singles to help West Chester come back from a 4-2 deficit in the match. Kristiansen was a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 winner.Â
The Golden Rams held a 2-1 advantage after doubles compeition conculded. Jared Howatt and Cody Leimback teamed up at first doubles for an 8-4 victory. Peterson and Connor Dunn teamed up at second doubles for an 8-6 win as well. However, USciences claimed a win at third doubles, and then rattled off straight-set victories at the top three singles positions to jump out to the 4-2 lead.
West Chester will make up its rained out PSAC East match at Bloomsburg tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
