West Chester Picks Up Sweep Over Lock Haven Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Rob Spekhardt's infield single in the bottom of the seventh gave West Chester game one, and Mike Raimo knocked in three runs in game two, as the Golden Rams swept a PSAC East doubleheader from Lock Haven Saturday afternoon at Serpico Stadium.

West Chester (16-11, 9-7 PSAC East) got its much-needed sweep of a conference doubleheader over Lock Haven (11-16, 3-11).

Tyler Coleman led off the bottom of the seventh inning of game one with a double to left. Chris Pula sacrificed him over to third, and one out later, Spekhardt hit ball between first and second that Lock Haven's first baseman ranged to his right to field. However, Spekhardt beat Lock Haven's pitcher to first, allowing Coleman to score the game-winner.

The Bald Eagles had rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning with a four-spot on West Chester starter Matt McAllister. However, senior closer, Kyle Weary (4-2), came on to keep Lock Haven down the rest of the way. Spekhardt's hustle made a winner out of Weary, who pitched part of the sixth and then the seventh.

West Chester scored a pair of runs in both the second and fourth innings. Luke Mogle and Raimo each had RBI singles in the second. Justin Roman and Coleman turned that trick in the fourth to give the hosts a 4-0 lead.

West Chester's first four hitters combined to go 8-for-15 with three RBI and two runs scored. Spekhardt and Mogle each had two hits as well. The Golden Rams scored five runs on 13 hits and did not commit an error in game one. Lock Haven scored four runs on six hits and did not commit an error.

McAllister lasted 5.1 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits, walked two and struck out four. Weary went the final 1.2 scoreless and hitless while striking out one for the win.

Weary picked up his fourth save of the year in the nightcap. He pitched the final two innings, yielding just one unearned run on three hits, to save the game for starter Fred Breidenbach (2-4). Breidy threw the first five innings and scattered eight hits while allowing four runs. He walked three and struck out two.

Raimo doubled and tripled in the second game and finished with three RBI. Matt Petrizzi went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Spekhardt and Mogle collected two more hits each to finish the doubleheader with four base hits.

A four-run fourth inning put West Chester in front for good. The Golden Rams trailed 4-2 entering the frame. However, Bill Ford walked with the bases loaded, and then Raimo hit a two-run double to make it a 5-4 game. Petrizzi followed with a run-scoring single before the inning was out.

West Chester and Lock Haven will close out their four-game weekend series on Sunday in Lock Haven in a makeup of Friday's rained out double dip. The Golden Rams will then travel to East Stroudsburg on Monday.
