Box Score 2 MANSFIELD, Pa. – Joe Gutowski threw 5.2 innings in the opener, and Tyler Coleman hit a home run, to lead visiting West Chester to a 6-3 victory in game one of a PSAC East baseball doubleheader. Mansfield captured the nightcap, 7-3.
West Chester (14-10, 7-7 PSAC East) evened the four-game series with Mansfield (15-11, 3-7) at two games apiece on the season.
The Mountaineers plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead in the opener. Golden Rams starting pitcher, Joe Gutowski, was cruising along until the sixth. However, Kyle Weary came on to get the visitors out of a jam.
West Chester responded with four runs in the top half of the seventh inning. Rob Knox hit a two-run double while Coleman and Matt Petrizzi each had run-scoring singles. That was all Weary would need to pick up the win and improve to 3-1 overall.
Justin Roman was 2-for-3 with a double, and Chris Pula had an sacrifice fly.
In the nightcap, West Chester scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to cut into a 4-1 advantage by Mansfield. However, the Mounties answered with three more in their half to open things back up.
Petrizzi finished the second game 3-for-4 with a RBI.
West Chester will try to play Wilmington (Del.) Monday afternoon in a makeup of a game that was snowed out earlier in the year.
