West Chester Women Fend Off Kutztown On The Road, 7-2



KUTZTOWN, Pa. – West Chester University pulled out three of four singles matches that went the full three sets as the visiting Golden Rams downed host Kutztown, 7-2, in a PSAC East women's tennis match Wednesday afternoon.
 
West Chester (6-9, 3-1 PSAC East) inched closer to a playoff spot with its win over Kutztown (8-6, 3-2), beating the Bears for the second straight season. West Chester will host the PSAC Semifinals next Thursday and Friday on South Campus.
 
Cassidy Branigan battled back from a 4-6 loss in the opening set at third singles to take the next two, 6-4, 6-1, and clinch the match for the Golden Rams. Abriana Nolan also managed a come-from-behind win at fourth singles, dropping the first set, 2-6, before rallying for a 6-4, 6-3 win.
 
Nicole Fahringer found a way to win her first set at second singles, 7-6 (4) in the opening set. Then, regrouped for a 6-3 win in the third set, after dropping the middle set, 3-6.
 
Haley Wissinger and Jami Dumler were each 8-3 winners at fifth and sixth singles, playing out the remaining matches after Branigan clinched the win.
 
Branigan and Stephanie Cifarelli were winners at third doubles while Nolan and Amalie Hartman were winners at second doubles, giving West Chester a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
 
West Chester returns home Thursday to face PSAC East rival Millersville at 2 p.m.
