West Chester Baseball Falls To Mercyhurst In PSAC Quarterfinals, 6-0

BUTLER, Pa. - West Chester University dropped its opening game of the 2014 PSAC Baseball Tournament Thursday morning, 6-0, and has been eliminated from the postseason.

The tournament format was changed from double-elimination to single elimination when yesterday's torrential rains washed out all four games and moved them to Thursday. Mercyhurst (29-12) advances to the PSAC semifinals on Friday while West Chester (25-18) sees its season come to a close.

Mercyhurst starting pitcher Dan Altavilla (8-0) pitched 7.2 innings and struck out 19 batters. He allowed just two hits and walked two. West Chester committed four errors in the field. Colin McKee came on and went the rest of the way, striking out two batters himself.

Mike Raimo and Robert Knox were the only Golden Rams to manage a hit in the loss.

Fred Breidenbach (3-6) suffered the loss on the mound for West Chester in his final college start.
