Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – For the second consecutive match of the day, West Chester held its opponent under a .100 hitting percentage, and Julia O'Brien (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) led the Golden Rams in kills, as the hosts of the season-opening Ram Fest Tournament took the title with a 3-1 win over visiting Philadelphia University Saturday.

West Chester (3-0) went undefeated on the weekend to take the crown as the only unbeaten in the four-team tournament. Notre Dame (Ohio) won two of three with its only loss at the hands of the Golden Rams while Philadelphia University went 1-2 and Davis & Elkins 0-3. West Chester took the match by scores of 25-17, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-21.

O'Brien knocked down 11 kills to pace West Chester in that category for the second time in as many matches Saturday. She had 12 kills against D&E in the opener Saturday morning. The Golden Rams hit just .168 against the Rams of Phila U. However, the visiting Rams only mustered a .049 percentage themselves over the four sets. The Golden Rams registered 10 team blocks for the third straight match.

Marina Sharkey (Newtown Square, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and freshman Brynne Taylor (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) each recorded eight kills in the win. Annalee Halbert (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Catholic) and freshman Macon Frey (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) shared setting duties once again with Halbert notching 19 assists and Frey 17.

Callie Krajcir (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) led the squad with 22 digs, defensively. Victoria Cruciani (Phoenixville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) registered seven blocks.

West Chester hits the road on Tuesday for the first time in 2014 when the Golden Rams travel to Chestnut Hill College for a 7 p.m. match.
