West Chester Men Fall To Bloomsburg, 74-71

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. –   West Chester dominated in the paint, scoring 42 of its 71 points compared to just 16 for the hosts, but it still was not enough as the Golden Rams fell, 74-71, to PSAC East rival Bloomsburg inside Nelson Field House Saturday.
 
Matt Wiseley's (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) 3-point attempt with three seconds left rimmed out as Bloomsburg (7-7, 3-7 PSAC) held on down the stretch for the win. West Chester (7-9, 5-5) struggled all day from the 3-point arc, going 2-for-11 for the day.
 
The Golden Rams trailed the entire first half, down by as much as nine in the opening 20 minutes. They cut the lead to one, but Bloomsburg kept the offensive pressure going and went into the half up, 34-30. The Huskies shot 6-for-14 from beyond the arc, going 11-for-25 for the game.
 
West Chester briefly took the lead off a layup from Thomas White (Chester, Pa./Penn Wood) in the second half, which was erased by a 3-pointer from Jon Riles. The game was a see-saw battle back-and-forth from there.
 
The Golden Rams went on an 11-0 run that put them up by five late in the game, before the Huskies mounted their comeback. Cory Blake (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) highlighted the run with five of his team-high 18 points. He added six rebounds and three assists in the game.
 
The Huskies regained the lead after a shot clock violation and an offensive foul. Haigler hit a floater down the lane that put Bloomsburg ahead. The hosts hit 9 of 11 free throws in the final 1:39, including 5 of 6 in the final 30 seconds, to keep West Chester at bay.
 
Tyrell Long (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) added 10 points, four rebounds and a steal in the loss. Wiseley finished with 10 points as well, going with a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Riles led the Huskies with 18 points and nine assists in the conference win. Christian Mortellite followed off the bench with 14 points. Haigler and Alssene Saintilus contributed with 13 points each to go with nine rebounds combined.
 
The Golden Rams will now turn the page as they head home to face non-conference opponent Holy Family at 8 p.m. Sunday night. It will be their last non-conference game for the regular season.
